Anatolian Shepherd (medium coat) : : Female (spayed) : : Adult : : X-Large
Gisela came to us after her family's farm burned down. She had lived her life in the pasture, protecting sheep, goats, and poultry, and she produced several litters of puppies. Once she joined Bluebonnet, Gisela was spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. She also had a few tumors removed -- all were sent to the lab for analysis. Thankfully, her two mammary tumors were benign. A tumor removed from her leg was identified by the lab as a stage 2 mast cell tumor; the vet achieved good margins in the excision, so we don't expect any spread or recurrence from this tumor, but of course, any future lumps or bumps should be examined by a qualified veterinarian to be sure that they don't present a problem. You can read more about mast cell tumors here: https://www.petmd.com/dog/conditions/cancer/c_dg_mast_cell_tumor. Gisela is extremely sweet, calm, and gentle with people. She loves attention but isn't terribly demanding. She gets along well with other dogs, of all sizes, whether they are pets or other working livestock guardian dogs. In our pasture, Gisela tends to stay near the goats, following them out into the pasture as they graze, and returning to the barn at the end of the day. She defers to the older dogs who were already in the pasture before she joined us, shows no signs of wanting to challenge their leadership. Even though she has only been with us for a few weeks, and part of that time was spent recuperating from surgery, Gisela definitely presents as an excellent LGD.
