Update Bullett has been with us for a year, and he has come a long way compared to the day when he was at risk of being euthanized in the shelter due to leash aggression. We have been conditioning him to accept wearing a collar, and we have used a variety of leash types to walk him, to get him used to the idea that a leash is not a bad thing. He is a happy boy who loves people and gets along well with other dogs. We recently took him to the vet for his annual check-up and vaccinations, and he did so well walking on the leash! We are really proud of the progress he has made.
Original Intake Story Bullett is a big sweet boy who was adopted from the shelter as a puppy and grew up with a family who loved him. But he grew to be bigger than their lease allowed, and the family was being fined $100 per day, so they returned him to the shelter. They apparently never realized how important it is to do at least a little bit of leash-training, so now, Bullett thinks a leash is the worst thing in the world. He is so aggressively reactive to the leash that he was at risk of being euthanized at the shelter. But one of the animal control officers reached out to ask for help, and Bluebonnet agreed to give him safe harbor. At Windsong Ranch, Bullett is as sweet as can be. But getting him to the vet was a major challenge because of his leash aggression. We had to muzzle him for everyone's safety. But once he was back home, he turned back into a goofy pup. He will need training and patience to learn to tolerate the leash.
