Honey Bear needs a caretaker or foster! Won't you consider helping him get a new start?
This handsome Anatolian Shepherd was found in a live trap set for feral hogs who were roaming on a friend's farm. He was so hungry that the veggies put in the live trap seemed like a veritable buffet to him. When our friends found him, they contacted us. Honey Bear stayed with them for a couple of weeks and lived in very close proximity to goats and chickens. When we brought him to Windsong Ranch, we were hoping he would prove to be livestock guardian material. He might some day be a good working dog, but for now, he has proven too excitable around livestock. He can live right next to our goats and not try to charge the fence, and no digging under to get to them, so he apparently doesn't have a prey drive. But when we take him into the paddock with the goats, Honey Bear wants to chase them and play with them. That could just be youthful exuberance, but still, we're not willing to trust him in the pasture. We think Honey Bear is best suited for life as a "pet" -- a loving, loyal friend to keep you company on your adventures, whether that be hiking, camping, or just taking the kids to softball and soccer games.
